Realistic Advice and Aggressive Representation

The penalties for a drunk driving conviction depend on a number of factors, including the presence of minors in the vehicle, whether an accident resulted from drunk driving and refusal to submit to a breath, blood or urine test. When you have been arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) in Elmhurst, Illinois, you can turn to me, attorney Peter Buh, for answers to your questions and aggressive legal representation.

As an Elmhurst DUI defense lawyer, I use my nearly 20 years of experience in criminal law to help clients protect their freedom and their rights. When you come to me for a free initial consultation, I will give you my honest assessment of the strength of your defense and possible options to pursue. If you stay with me, I will aggressively pursue your interests in both civil and criminal court.

Penalties and Options for First-time Offenders

Minimum penalties for a first-time offender include driver's license suspension for one year, a fine of up to $2,500 and possible imprisonment for up to one year. I have never had a first-time DUI offender go to jail. Together we can pursue other options such as court supervision or breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID) programs to retain a temporary driving permit.

Multiple Offenses

For a second or third conviction of DUI, the state will suspend your license for three to six years. Other penalties include fines from $2,500 to $10,000 as well as mandatory jail time. You could face extended imprisonment at the Illinois Department of Corrections for up to six years. Probation and required community service hours are also common.

I know the consequences you face for multiple DUIs. That's why I do the work necessary in order to achieve the best possible deal for you. I challenge all scientific evidence such as Breathalyzer or blood test results, checking for proper maintenance and calibration of the equipment used. Through hard work and persistent advocacy, I strive to have your charges reduced or your case dismissed due to faulty police work.
